Death Note Live-action Draws 65,000 in U.S. theaters

Death Note, the first live action film adaptation of the white-hot manga/anime series, drew 65,000 viewers over two days in just 300 theaters. For the record, normally films in the U.S. are released in thousands of theaters. As A.N.N. points out, in Viz's Naruto the Movie was only seen by some 6,000 people back in June 2007. The film reportedly sold about 20,000 tickets in advance and about 40,000 tickets on the screening days. Viz Pictures has begun exploring the possibility of releasing the second live-action film, Death Note: The Last Name, in theaters this fall after the first movie ships on DVD in North America on September 16.
