The holder of the Japanese rights to YuGiOh — TV Tokyo Corp and Nihon Ad Systems — has nixed its deal with 4Kids Entertainment alleging the company struck secret deals to defraud the Japanese companies of anime profits. Oh snap!
Let me explain a bit further. 4Kids is the U.S. company who gets the rights to Japanese anime and dubs it so it can be aired on U.S. television. For hits like YuGiOh, the Hollywood Reporter.com reports that 4Kids Ent made more than $152 million over 8 years which included merchandising related to the anime series.
So what happened? TV Tokyo and Nihon Ad Sys filed a lawsuit saying that after they audited 4Kids’ accounting records, they learned that 4Kids cut deals with TV networks like Cartoon Network, and home video distributors like Funimation Productions… all while making “improper royalty deductions”.
Crunchyroll is on a roll with streaming a simulcast of Astarotte’s Toy scheduled for Sundays at 9AM PT starting April 10th. And this will not only be available to viewers in the U.S., but also in the U.K., Ireland, parts of Africa, Malaysia, Singapore and other nations.
According to the press release, Astarotte’s Toy — a “magical harem series” — will begin first for premium members, then available for everyone else a week later.
Earlier, it was announced that Madoka magica would be postponed for an indefinite amount of time with the Blu ray/DVD pushed back for a month.Â
Well according to the latest information, this is because the “production lines and the distribution channels of the disc media have been disrupted by the earthquake.”
